The Oosik Rifleworks Story

For those who don't know, an Oosik is a walrus baculum (penile bone). A bit crass for the name of a rifle company perhaps, but there's a deeper meaning behind it. My father was an avid outdoorsman. One of his passions was polar exploration. He made many trips to Alaska and the Canadian arctic. On these trips he would often encounter walruses and found them fascinating. He learned from his guide that the warlus has the largest baculum of any land mammal, and that the Inuit word for it was Oosik. He found it hilarious and from there on out the Oosik became a part of his humor. He even went on to write two books and publish them under Oosik Publishing. My father passed suddenly and unexpectedly on December 2nd, 2020, while I was away at gunsmithing school. He went far too young but left an amazing legacy of family, friends, and humor. To honor his legacy, I build rifles under the name Oosik.
